Case Study - Improving Staff Satisfaction
Improving staff satisfaction 29.2 to 69.8
Overview of situation
We were suffering from poor management that impacted our staff engagement survey scores. Staff were explicitly putting the blame at their managers door and it was creating a toxic environment. Our staff engagement score reduced to 67.3% to 29.2%, an all-time low!

The problem faced
The feedback from the engagement survey was that our staff felt that we didn’t care for them. There was limited support in terms of both professional and personal development. There was also a lack of trust within the team and that if they do escalate issues, they’re typical dealt with insufficiently. Resultingly, we started to notice a drop in our performance KPIs and a subtle increase in our leavers.

What caused the problem
The majority of line managers in our organisation as from organic promotions. As a management team we have never undertake formalised training in terms of leading, managing and motivating staff. Additionally, natural growth has also added an element of compounding to the above issue.

Cost of the opportunity
It’s preventing further growth as this felt like definite growing pains for us. We were also having to throw large sums of money at outsourcing functions to maintain what client base we initially had. Without improving our line managers capability to sufficiently engage and motivate our teams we would have definitely had to decrease our offering and therefore headcount to stabilise the company.

The plan XYZ proposed
Bearman HR came on site within 48hours and commenced their assessment and created a formalised plan of action by the end of the week for us to review. Instantaneously the weight of the world lifted from the management team. The plan consisted of a bespoke introduction to line management programme for our managers to attend, along with some targeted HR Consultancy within the organisation, all specifically targeted at engaging and motivating our staff to be the best they can be.

Results that followed
Once Bearman HR got to work and carried out the leadership programme along with the targeted consultancy works, we re-did the engagement survey which resulted in even better scores than before. We achieved a 71.1% and was over the moon! We would have been delighted just to get back to a position we were originally in. However, not only are staff now more engaged, we a now in an even better position to spring board off from for further improvements due to our managers being more capable to lead and direct their teams than ever before. We are hugely optimistic about the Companies long term future, as are our staff!
